This client software has been designed to specifically inter operate with a VPN
gateway running the ipsec-tools racoon IKE daemon. It may be that it also inter
operates with other IPSEC products but no compatibility testing has been
performed to determine this.
Ipsec-tools can be used with most modern open source operating systems that
have IPSEC capabilities ( such as Linux and many of the BSDs ). Racoon was
primarily selected as the reference gateway IKE daemon for its ability to perform Configuration Transaction Exchange for dynamic client configuration as well as Extended and Hybrid mode user
level authentication.
